On the second day of the IND vs NZ first test match, Shreyas Iyer, playing his debut test match, hit his maiden test century. He became the 10th player to score a century on his test debut in a home series. He faced 171 deliveries to score 105 runs consisting of 13 fours and 2 sixes.
As a result of this, team India made a total of 345 runs in the first inning. On the other side, Indian bowlers appeared to be struggling to get a wicket. In their first inning on the second day, the Kiwi team scored 129 runs without any loss by the end of the day.
From the New Zealand side, Tom Lathem and Will Young are on the crease. Tom Lathem is playing on 50 while Will young is batting with an unbeaten 75 runs and after scoring half-centuries on the first day returned to the pavilion unbeaten. Both the players gave a good taste to the Indian bowlers.
India lost 6 wickets in just 87 runs difference
India started the second-day inning and carried the game on from 258 for 4. But the malignant spell of Tim Southee crippled the Indian batting line-up. Team India lost 6 wickets while adding just 87 runs to the scoreboard and was bowled out on a total of 345.
After Shreyas Iyer (105) and Ravindra Jadeja (50), Ravichandran Ashwin added 38 runs to the team’s total from the tail end. Tim Southee took good advantage of the swing from the new ball. He took 5 wickets while conceding only 69 runs in his spell.
Tim Southee broke 41 years old record
On the second day of first Ind vs NZ test match, Kiwi fast bowler Tim Southee broke the 41-year-old record. He took 5 wickets in the first inning. It is the 13th time when Tim Southee took five or more wickets in Test cricket. After 1980 it was the first time when any foreign bowler took five wickets in Kanpur. In 1979 Pakistan’s Sikander Bakht and Ehteshamuddin achieved this feat.
