IND vs ENG 1st T20: Hardik Pandya (51 runs and four off 33) helped India take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series after beating hosts England by 50 runs in the first T20I played late on Thursday. After recovering from Corona, Indian captain Rohit Sharma returned to the field and decided to bat first after winning the toss in this match against England. The Indian team scored 198 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs.
In reply, the England team was bundled out for 148 runs. Apart from Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav scored 39, Deepak Hooda scored 33, and Rohit scored 24.
Captain Rohit broke Virat’s record
In this match, Rohit Sharma scored 20 runs in 14 balls with five fours. With this, he has become the first captain to complete the fastest 1000 runs in T20 International cricket. He surpassed Virat Kohli by achieving this feat in 29 innings. Virat had completed 1000 T-20 runs as captain in 30 innings.
Meanwhile, fast bowler Arshdeep Singh made his T20 debut for India. Captain Rohit handed him the cap of Team India.
Poor form: After ODI, the West Indies tour can also be given a rest
After nine months of leaving the captaincy, it was difficult for Virat to make a place in the team. Virat had announced to quit the captaincy after the ICC T20 World Cup last year. But now after nine months, the star Indian cricketer has reached a situation where he may have to struggle to keep his place in Team India.
Virat is going through a very bad phase since leaving the captaincy. Be it Test, ODI, or T20 cricket, Virat’s bat is not able to score runs in all three formats. In IPL also he could not do anything special. For this, he had to face all-around criticism.
The future will be decided after the series against England
According to BCCI sources, the eyes of the Indian team management and selectors are on Kohli so that he can be reconsidered while choosing the team for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup.
The team management is currently not clear about his place. The T20 series against West Indies will clear the picture to a great extent for the World Cup. In such a situation, the limited-overs series against England is very important for Kohli. His future will be decided only after these two series. He will have to score runs in both the ODI and T20 formats to prove himself.
Continuous knocking by youth
The biggest problem in front of the selectors is that they cannot give many chances to Kohli, because there is a long line of young cricketers who are knocking continuously for entry into Team India. India has many young options in the form of Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Hooda, Sanju Samson, and Shreyas Iyer. All of them are doing well too and are strong contenders. In such a situation, Kohli can be left behind.
