IND VS WI 1st ODI: The Indian team led by Shikhar Dhawan defeated West Indies by a close margin of 3 runs in the first ODI match played in Port of Spain, Trinidad. West Indies needed 15 runs to win in the last over but the hosts could only manage to score 11 runs.

In the first ODI played in Port of Spain, Team India, batting first, set a target of 309 runs in front of the Caribbean team. In response, the West Indies team could only score 305 runs in the stipulated 50 overs for the loss of 6 wickets. Indian captain Shikhar Dhawan, who played an innings of 97 runs in this match, was adjudged the man of the match. For the Caribbean team, Romario Shepherd (39 not out) and Akil Hossain (32 not out) tried to win the match for the team by adding 53 runs for the 7th wicket but the Indian team was successful in saving the match.

Earlier, Shubman Gill made a comeback with 64 while skipper Shikhar Dhawan missed a century by three runs but the duo took India to 308 for seven in the first ODI against West Indies on Friday. Gill, playing the first ODI since December 2020, scored 64 runs in 52 balls while Dhawan scored 97 runs in 99 balls. Shreyas Iyer scored 54 runs in 57 balls. Dhawan and Gill shared 119 runs in 106 balls for the first wicket. Gill was run out in the 18th over but he hit many attractive shots in his innings.

Shubman Gill played ODI after two years and scored a half-century

Gill hit six fours and two sixes in his innings. He was run out on an accurate throw from West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran.

It was Gill’s first half-century in ODI cricket. At the same time, Dhawan, who played only in the ODI format, hit ten fours and three sixes in his innings. India was once looking to cross 350 runs, but the middle order collapsed after Dhawan fell victim to a nervous ninety. Dhawan has been a victim of ‘nervous ninety‘ for the seventh time in his career.

Shikhar Dhawan missed scoring a century by 3-runs

India’s score at one time was 213 for one wicket, which became 252 for five. Sanju Samson once again missed the golden opportunity and was dismissed after scoring 12 runs. At the same time, Suryakumar Yadav (13) had to bear the brunt of playing a poor shot. Deepak Hooda scored 27 and Axar Patel scored 21 runs and added 42 runs for the sixth wicket to take India past 300 runs.

T20 cricket: Mukesh Chaudhary and Chetan Sakaria to play in Australia

India’s two fast bowlers Chetan Sakaria and Mukesh Chaudhary will play in the opening season of the T20 match starting here next month. Both Sakariya and Choudhary represented Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings respectively in the last season of the IPL. The two players will spend time in Brisbane as part of an exchange program between the MRF Pace Foundation and Australia.
